Plumbing Membership Requirements 

Both CORGI gas-registered and non-CORGI businesses can join the CORGI Plumbing Scheme if they hold suitable qualifications and meet the scheme requirements outlined below and detailed in the scheme rules.

Qualification Requirements

Qualification requirements to join the CORGI Plumbing Scheme depend upon which category your choose to join.

Qualifications are not needed for the plumbing appliances category of the Plumbing Scheme. However, if you hold any of the suitable qualifications outlined below then you are likely to have the necessary skills and knowledge required to join the scheme.

  • Plumbing appliances : S/NVQ Level 2 C&G plumbing 6024, 6129, 6089 or equivalent
  • Un-vented hot water storage:  you must hold S/NVQ Level 3 with Unit for un-vented hot water systems or CITB un-vented hot water systems or equivalent - i.e. a certificate issued by a reputable provider covering the installation of un-vented hot water storage cylinders e.g. LOGIC Certification, BPEC, BBA, NIC Certification and any other issued by any other recognised organisation.

Scheme Requirements
As part of the application process, you will be assessed to ensure that the following criteria can be satisfied and that the work can be carried out safely.

  • You must have an appropriate number of operatives in relation to the amount of work undertaken
  • You must declare that you public liability insurance of at least £2 million
  • You must declare that you offer customers an insurance backed warranty which will cover the work for a period of at least 6 years, such as the CORGI Workmanship Warranty

Additionally, you will need to be able to demonstrate that you are able to satisfy the following items:

  • Provide evidence of training and or experience for all operatives carrying out installation work
  • Have access to relevant technical reference documents
  • Have access to appropriate relevant calibrated / certificated test equipment
  • Have a principle duty holder responsible for each Competent Persons Scheme
  • Have an auditable system which covers appropriate certification and reporting of the work undertaken by the business
  • Have an auditable system identifying responsibilities within the business for the safety, quality and standards of the work
  • Operate an effective complaints system
  • Have a written Health & Safety Policy statement where required by law (for businesses with 5 or more operatives) and to carry out risk assessment as appropriate

CORGI will carry out an assessment to ensure the work activity is being carried out competently. The assessment will cover work inspection and the management systems used by the business to administer and control the activity. Any certificates will be checked as part of the inspection process.
