Rules & Assessment

What Does The Assessment Involve?
The assessment comprises an office assessment and will normally include a site assessment of gas work. This may be work in progress or completed work as determined by CORGI Certification. We recommend that you attend the site with the assessor. Under the requirements of EN45011, the assessor cannot confirm whether a Certificate will or will not be awarded since that decision is made by the Certification Panel based on the evidence presented by the assessor.

What are the Assessment Criteria?
Your business systems and procedures will be assessed against the requirements of the Scheme as set out in the CORGI Certification Scheme Rules and Guidance (Standards 3.1 – 3.6).

The arrangements a sole trader has in place can be regarded as quite straightforward when compared to an employer and/or a business that operates from more than one location and therefore has arrangements that form a more complex system of processes and procedures.

The Quality Control system should be designed and used to bring about improvements to the business operation. Details of all Quality Control activity should be documented. Information on quality matters may be obtained from complaints received by the business.

Who Makes the Decision?
The Certification Panel makes the decision on Certification. Members of the Panel review the assessment evidence submitted by the assessor and take into account the recommendation made by the assessor. The Panel’s decision will be forwarded to the Applicant together with appropriate details concerning Certification where this has been granted.

Upon a decision being made by the Certification Panel, we will advise you on the outcome of the assessment. The assessor will advise applicants if the requirements of the Scheme are not being satisfied.

A report will be provided on the areas where attention is required to bring about conformity and will make clear what evidence is required to demonstrate that those nonconformities have been addressed. The assessor will also explain the arrangements for presenting the evidence and whether or not a further site or office visit will be required and any additional charges that apply. This does not amount to a guarantee that a certificate will be awarded.

Where applicable we will provide a nonconformity report, normally at the time of the assessment or within 5 days of the assessment unless a different period is agreed between the assessor and the applicant.

Details of the Certificated Installer will be placed on the full Certification Register where it will be accessible to anyone with a legitimate interest and, if the installer wishes, on the CORGI website.
