Scheme Information

Why Become Certificated?
In many instances it is no longer acceptable to prove practical competence alone. The tender requirements of social landlords, local authorities and managing agents among others, expect gas contractors to provide evidence of the quality management systems they have in place.

Why seek Certification by CORGI?
Certification by CORGI Certification provides an accessible way for you to give your customers assurance in your ability to deliver a quality service. The Certification Scheme for Registered Gas Installers is UKAS accredited to European Standard EN45011 for product certification systems. It is designed to assess your management systems and arrangements for the control of safe gas work. The scheme certificate is normally valid for 3 years and enables you to make use of the UKAS ‘Crown and Tick’ logo to enhance your own corporate material.

  • Certification to BS EN 45011 by an accredited certification body shows the business to be committed to quality, customers, and a willingness to work towards improving efficiency
  • It gives a competitive edge to an organisation's marketing and business opportunities
  • It prescribes systematic control of activities to ensure that the needs and expectations of customers are met
  • The gas scheme quality mark is unique in that it is the only one of its kind accredited by UKAS specifically for gas offering functionality, range, reliability, durability and maintainability
  • It provides a personalised, quality service through knowledgeable, helpful and efficient staff
  • It focuses on ‘Best Value’ ie economy, efficiency and effectiveness, convenience, continuous availability and zero defects leading to growth in profitability
  • The CORGI Certification Gas Scheme is complementary to other quality schemes e.g. ISO 9000, Charter Mark, European Foundation of Quality Management and Investors in People
  • The achievement of Certification demonstrates that the installer has gone through a rigorous, impartial 3rd party assessment against the requirements of the Scheme, provides recognition that the company performs effectively and safely and provides consumer confidence in the installer’s management systems for gas work
  • The Audit Commission recognises that Certification is a sign of good and safe gas work
  • CORGI’s field system takes into account the Certificated status recognised standard of quality resulting in low risk rating – businesses with a high risk rating are subject to more inspections from CORGI costing time and money in lost productivity
  • Certificated status provides proof of quality when tendering for gas work. Tender processes usually expect businesses to formulate their quotes based on 60% quality and 40% cost aimed at providing ‘Best Value’ and stipulated standards eg ISO9000 series and BS EN45011 (Gas Scheme Standard) are often referenced in an effort to ensure a quality service is available to clients and customers
  • The amount of time needed to gain certification is much less than the time required to introduce other quality schemes
CORGI Certification is promoting the Scheme to Managing Agents, Housing Associations, specifiers, landlords, Local Authorities etc who value the assurances provided from the verification of management systems by an accredited Certification body
  • Certification helps installers manage gas work safely in the way that best suits the installing business
  • Certification helps installers to work towards enhancing good practises and improving systems where there is a need to do so and brings more focus in relation to working practises and methods
  • There is no annual management or administrative fee
