The CORGI Trust is proud to be an official sponsor of Child Safety Week 2008, joining government departments and companies such as Fire Angel and Bitrex to raise awareness around serious childhood accidents and how to prevent them.
Child Safety Week is organised annually by the Child Accident Prevention Trust, and is being held from 23-29 June 2008.
Manager of The CORGI Trust, Nigel Dumbrell said:
“We believe that by working in partnership with organisations that share similar objectives to us, that we can achieve our goals for awareness on gas safety issues a lot easier. Each year around 30 people die and many hundreds more are seriously injured from carbon monoxide poisoning.
“Research has shown that 50% of those affected by carbon monoxide poisoning include children. The smaller or frailer the person, the more quickly the body gets overcome by the effects of this deadly gas – the silent killer! The CORGI Trust is strongly committed to supporting Child Safety Week as part of our ongoing campaign to prevent these needless and tragic incidents.”
The CORGI Trust will be supporting the campaign through various channels and by encouraging all 55,000 CORGI registered businesses across the UK to encourage their customers to install an audible carbon monoxide alarm.
Consumers will be informed on the importance of having gas appliances serviced and safety checked annually by a CORGI registered installer, promoting the dangers of using an illegal gas worker to install, fix or service an appliance, the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and how to obtain an audible carbon monoxide alarm.
Child Safety Week generates significant media coverage around various safety issues and last year reached 34 million people through radio, television, press and websites. Thousands of local safety activities and events took place and were attended by millions of children and families UK-wide. Last year, local activities reached an estimated 2.1 million parents and grandparents, and 1.8 million children and young people.
