New carbon monoxide campaign - 03/11/2008 12:00

New carbon monoxide campaign featuring Kirstie Allsopp

This winter, CORGI is very pleased to be supporting a new carbon monoxide awareness campaign entitled  'Be Alarmed - Carbon Monoxide'. The campaign launched this month and has been organised by COCAA (The Carbon Monoxide Consumer Awareness Alliance), of which CORGI is proud to be a part.

The exciting and innovative campaign featuring TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp (from Channel Four's 'Relocation, Relocation, Relocation') has already attracted significant media coverage, with features on ITV's 'This Morning' and Sky News. The campaign has also gained considerable support from national and local radio.

Stacey Rogers has also been promoting the campaign. Since the death of her young son to carbon monoxide poisoning, Stacey has worked tirelessly campaigning all over the UK for greater awareness around the dangers of this silent and deadly gas.

Some 20 million households in the UK are putting themselves at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning by not taking the necessary precautions. Everyone needs to ensure that their appliances are serviced regularly and that they have an audible carbon monoxide alarm. Whether using gas, oil or solid fuel, all fuel-burning appliances – including stoves, fires, boilers and water heaters – are capable of producing carbon monoxide if not correctly installed and maintained. As you can’t smell, see or taste carbon monoxide, an audible alarm is essential for further protection.

As finances are squeezed in the current economic climate, there is a significant risk that householders will cut further corners on maintaining their appliances, unwittingly increasing the dangers for themselves and their families.

The 'Be Alarmed -Carbon Monoxide' campaign will continue into the early New Year 2009.
