Prosecutions May 2007

  1. JR Blacklock trading as H20 Plumbing and Heating Services, admitted to two charges under the Trade Descriptions Act and one of deception at Southampton Crown Court. He received a three months suspended sentence with 100 hours Community Punishment Order and no costs were awarded. Trading Standards were happy with this result considering the guilty plea and the fact this involved a deliberate fraudulent use of a fake CORGI ID card.
  2. Mr Westley Maplesden trading as WG Maplesden Installations, appeared at Maidstone Crown Court on 27 April 2007 and pleaded guilty to two charges under the Gas Safety Installation and Use Regulations, regulation 3(2) and regulation 5(3). He was fined £1,500 for each charge and ordered to pay £1,000 in costs. Mr Maplesden installed a new LPG boiler for a customer but did not have the correct qualifications to work on LPG appliances. Mr Maplesden had his CORGI registration withdrawn on 5 December 2005 for failure to apply competence and for working out of scope.
  3. David Morris, was issued with a written warning by Worcester Trading Standards advising him not to use the CORGI logo without obtaining CORGI registration. Mr Morris will be rectifying all future adverts.
  4. Mr J Burton of Enfield. Mr Burton was ordered to pay £1600 compensation and costs awarded of £400.
  5. John Regan trading as JR Services, also known as John Riley trading as JR Services, pleaded guilty to two charges of recklessly making false statements as to the provision of a service i.e. that he was CORGI registered. The Durham magistrates fined him £300 for each offence, reduced in total to £400 because of his discount for an early plea. In addition costs totalling £439.75 were awarded against him.
