A certificate should be provided for any installation or replacement of a gas appliance in your home. A CORGI registered installer can provide this certificate.
From 1st April 2005 following changes to Building Regulations it became a legal requirement for installers to notify their local Building Control Office whenever they install a heat producing appliance in a residential property. This will have to be inspected and could cost up to £300.
However, by using a CORGI Registered Installer who is able to self-certify, Local Building Control will be notified directly, which should offer you significant savings. This applies to England and Wales only, ask your CORGI Registered Installer if Building Regulations is relevant to your work, and if they can help you to avoid Buiding Control charges.
As a result of this and following changes to CORGI’s rules for registration, registered installers must notify CORGI whenever they install a heat producing appliance into a residential property.
Following notification a Building Regulations Compliance certificate is issued by CORGI on the installer’s behalf as an administration service to the installer. This certificate is a personal declaration by the installer concerned confirming that the work has been carried out by a CORGI registered installer in compliance with the Building Regulations.
Where a registered installer has not signed up to CORGI's scheme to notify their Local Building Control Office on their behalf, following notification of the installation by the installer CORGI will issue the householder with a Declaration of Safety. This certificate confirms that the work was carried out by a registered installer. It is then the responsibility of the householder or the installer to notify Building Control of the installation.
You will receive certificates from CORGI after a gas appliance has been installed. Please keep this safe as it proves the appliance has been installed by a professional, and it may be useful when you come to sell your home.
