Following consultation, the new Strategic Management Board (SMB) recently ratified the following decision:
That the portable flue gas analyser assessment (CPA1) will become a prerequisite for anyone undertaking the following ACS appliance assessment modules, HTR1 or CEN1 with effect from 1 February 2010.
The reasoning for the SMB decision of bringing about the change to gas safety competence assessment criteria, is to safeguard the public by ensuring that ALL registered installers* working on gas fires, wall heaters and central heating appliances are competent in the use of a portable flue gas analyser. This is an essential aspect of confirming the gas safety for an increasing number of appliances.
