CORGI are experienced operating Certification schemes and are the only organisation accredited by UKAS to operate a Gas Safety scheme relating to 45011, the European Standard which the MCS scheme is assessed against.
Q: What qualifications are required for the CORGI MCS scheme?
A: All formal Microgeneration Qualifications will be considered for membership of the CORGI MCS scheme, in line with the Microgeneration Installation Standards (MIS) and our scheme rules.
Q: Does the MCS scheme cover the whole of the U.K.?
A: The Microgeneration Certification Scheme applies in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Where access to grant funding is available. (n.b. Competent Person Schemes do not apply in Scotland but do in England and Wales)
Q: Is CORGI MCS replacing the BRE scheme?
A: No, this is an alternative scheme introduced by the government, current BRE members have the opportunity to join CORGI MCS instead should they wish.
Q: How long does registration last and how frequently will I be inspected?
A: Registration lasts for a year, at which point your business will have to re-new and undertake an annual surveillance visit. (See fee schedule for prices)
Q: Does CORGI MCS cover all Environmental Technologies under MCS?
A: CORGI have applied for Solar Thermal, Heat pumps and Solar Photovoltaic and will be expanding into all Microgeneration technologies shortly.
Q: Does an applicant company need to demonstrate a quality management system (QMS)?
A: Yes quality systems are a requirement under MCS, the requirements are outlined in the scheme rules, “CC/DOC/004A MCS scheme rules and guidance“.
Q: Does an applicant company need to demonstrate competence?
A: Yes, competence will have to be demonstrated in the specific areas applicable under the registration application.
